August 31, 2007 - Yomp provides muscle for Just Car Insurance TVC's.

Working closely with director Jolyon Watkins from production company Exit Films and agency BADJAR Ogilvy, Yomp has just wrapped up production on two TVC's for Just Car Insurance.

"Lowrider" features a black sports car lowering and raising, just like a traditional Low-rider to advertise the company's new product. For this TVC, Yomp provided the full range of services from initial ingestion of HD footage from the shoot, offline edit and colour grading through to HD online edit and final broadcast.

Yomp's second TVC for Just Car Insurance "Exhaust" features a fully animated 3D replica of a sports car's exhaust. "Creating and animating the exhaust involved some very careful planning on set as the footage has to be camera tracked in order to replace the existing exhaust." said Simon Linge, senior VFX Artist. "We then had to match the reflections and shadows from the plates with the CGI exhaust, which can always be tricky." Once carefully integrated into the shot, the Yomp team animated the exhaust transforming through three stages from a standard exhaust, to a "hotted up" version and finally to a "Super charged turbo exhaust".

Once the CGI was completed, the entire offline edit, colour grade, straight through to final online edit and broadcast was completed by the Yomp team. "Over the past year we have made it possible for agencies and production companies to come to Yomp and only Yomp." says Scott Spencer, Director of Yomp. "From VFX, editing, colour grading and mastering, we really are a one-stop shop."

The Just Car Insurance commercials can be seen running on TV from early September.

August 10, 2007 - Exit Films, Rubidium and Yomp collaborate on Heavy Industry.

Yomp's latest music clip produced for director Rubidium of Exit Films finished production today, showcasing a dark futuristic robot being born in dramatic style.

The project entitled "Heavy Industry" needed to blend both organic looking elements with something completely robobotic in nature. "There were a number of technical challenges to overcome, such as creating a realistic looking human brain that is floating under water" said Arran Potter, Lead VFX Artist. "Creating anything underwater in VFX is very difficult to do, as there is a lot going on. From bubbles, to mirk in the water, to shafts of light...you really need to pay attention to details. But as we progressed through the project, it all came together."

Yomp managed to create the entire music clip in approximately four weeks, a tough challenge in the VFX industry. The end result however was a fantastic looking music clip that so far has been well received by the music industry.

July 11, 2007 - First National Real Estate runs faster with Yomp's Motion Capture

Yomp's in house Motion Capture facility was used heavily in the production of a new DVD campaign for First National Real Estate completed this week

The Motion Capture technology that was used is usually associated with high-end, hollywood blockbuster feature films and often comes with a price tag to match. This was put to the test by First National Real Estate who need to produce an animation for a national conference comprising of a large number of animated characters running and walking.

With the need for quick turnarounds on the animation component of the production, Yomp put it's Motion Capture pipeline through its paces. "We were able to capture more than a week's worth of animation in around a day." said Carl Knox, senior TD Artist. "Once the data was processed and applied to the characters, we had animation which would be almost impossible to achieve in the given time frame."

Utilising Yomp's Motion Capture facility ensured that First National Real Estate's expectations of animated characters were more than exceeded while still keeping the production on time and on budget.

June 10, 2007 - Yomp helps kick disease

In an ongoing commitment to giving back to the community, Yomp has just finished production of a 30 second television commercial helping to promote the Australian Crohn's and Colitis Association (ACCA) awareness week. "When we were approached by the White Agency to help in producing a spot for the ACCA, we immediately jumped at the chance." said Scott Spencer, Director at Yomp. "We pride ourselves on giving back to the community wherever we can. We just hope that we've made a difference."

In conjunction with both the White Agency and the ACCA, Yomp was given the task of creating a unique look to help express just what it's like living with the disease. "Originally we were looking at just a simple clock as the disease can strike at any time" said Carl Knox "however we were given the go ahead to really push the limits creatively and come up with something that resonated with the viewers."

The creation of a talking and moving clock was exactly what the client was after. The campaign was such a success that the website hits were at an all time high along with a large amount of additional donations and subscribers.

"The post production industry is one of the most unique and creative fields to work in, and our new branding reflects that." said Scott Spencer, Director of Yomp Studios. "Creating unique, exciting and visually compelling imagery is what we do best here at Yomp. And what better way to showcase our creative talents than in our very own Yomp brand."

May 10, 2007 - "The Yomp Experience" wraps up production

In-house 3D animated short film "The Yomp Experience" wrapped up production today in Melbourne. The 8 minute short film is a milestone in Yomp Studios development, marking its 2nd successful year of operation in the post production industry.

"Our motto here at Yomp Studios is to never follow the trend, and to always be different. The Yomp Experience short film is just that, something which most people will have never seen before."

"The Yomp Experience" was created over an 8 month period, from pre-production right through to final output. Using Autodesk Maya as the production base, the team rendered over 12000 frames in High Definition resolution. "Technically speaking, I wanted to throw everything in there." said Adam Spencer, Yomp Studios Creative Director. "From Cloth Simulation, to Motion Capture, to Global Illumination, the end product really had to showcase what Yomp Studios is capable of."

Yomp's new state-of-the-art Motion Capture system was used heavily in the production to tackle the large amounts of realistic animation required. "While it may not sound like a lot, 8 minutes of quality animation requires a lot of man hours. It made sense to invest in a motion capture system that can produce high quality animation and do it very fast. I think the end results speak for themselves" said Adam.

"We wanted to produce something that would really put our pipeline though its paces." Said Arran Potter, lead VFX Artist. "Having state-of-the-art equipment is one thing, but for it all to come together at crunch time is something completely different all together. It's good to know that our facilities can handle any size production."

May 4, 2007 - Yomp offers in house Motion Capture services

Yomp Studios today announced the expansion of its services to now include Motion Capture. With the acquisition of a state of the art Motion Capture system, Yomp Studios offers expanded animation flexibility to agencies, directors and producers worldwide.

Scott Spencer, Director of Yomp Studios said "The decision was made to expand upon our existing range of services to ensure that we can meet the ever changing needs of our clients. By offering an in-house motion capture service, we can ensure that our clients maintain complete control over the motion capture process as opposed to having to outsource to an independent motion capture facility as most post houses do."

Yomp's Motion Capture pipeline is able to be customised to suit the needs of each job. Traditional Motion capture systems require dedicated areas, more often than not housed in specially designed buildings, which imposes limitations on usage, location and time. These systems then usually require large amounts of data cleaning and can take quite some time before the end result can be seen.

With the advanced gyroscopic system being utilised at Yomp, there is no longer any need to worry about time and location limits that are commonly imposed upon by other facilities. Yomp has a fully portable system which features minimal cleanup of data and a complete real-time feedback pipeline. This makes sure that the creative direction is realised from the time the first take is captured.

"By utilising a real-time system, everyone involved in the motion capture process can see what the character's movements will be like at the point of capture." said Adam Spencer, Creative Director of Yomp Studios. "This means that we can eliminate a large proportion of animation cleanup that traditional systems need, saving our clients both time and money."

Yomp Studios' in-house feature, "The Yomp Experience" heavily involved the use of the motion capture system. "Motion capture was really the only way to give our characters the life they needed." said Adam Spencer "The amount of animation required for the short really could not have been done in the time that we had and the finished quality of the animation far surpassed anything that could have been hand animated."
